Vote européen : la réaction d’ELEN - un succès pour l’occitan
Vous trouverez ci-dessous le communiqué de presse, en anglais, d’ELEN, ONG européenne, après l’adoption par le Parlement européen du rapport présenté ce mercredi. Ce vote est le résultat de quatre années de travail des associations membres d’ELEN qui par leur présence régulière auprès des parlementaires (actions de lobbying, présentations, rencontres formelles et informelles,...) démontrent leur capacité d’action. L’IEO, qui participa à deux réunions ces derniers mois auprès de la comission des "langues minorisées" : la première organisée à l’iniciative de françois Alfonsi, à la suite de la manifestation de Toulouse, pour demander au président Hollande de ratifier la Charte européenne (promesse 56 du candidat), la seconde à l’iniciative de catherine Greize, pour un état des lieux de la question occitane.

Please find attached an ELEN press release for distribution on the success of the Endangered Languages Report which was passed with an overwhelming majority in the European Parliament today.
The Report was initiated and drafted back in 2009 by Eurolang with input from EBLUL, but it has taken 4 years to get the parliamentary time to be debated. Mr Alfonsi and his team, however, persisted and I continued to lobby for it with the other political groups. This resulted in it being supported unanimously in the Culture Committee, after various amendments, which led to the huge majority in today’s vote.
This massive majority from the EP gives the Report a strong mandate for it to be implemented by the Commission. I propose that ELEN now requests further meetings with Commissioner Vassiliou, her Cabinet, and DG EAC in order to discuss how the Report can be implemented. Mr Alfonsi said that he is also arranging meetings with the Commissioner. The EP support will also strengthen our Pilot project proposal which is currently before the Budget Committee.
